So you have a modern kitchen, with modern appliances and cabinets, but you still love that retro look of the 1950′s and you want to have that for your kitchen. How are you going to do it? Actually, that’s pretty simple. It’s all about the accent pieces that you add to your walls and counter-tops.
Start off with a retro wall clock, or several arranged in a grouping on your wall. Then add a small grouping of several small appliances to a corner of our counter-top.
Remember to think about your color scheme when choosing small appliances. If you have gone with an aqua blue, like my kitchen is, then either use matching appliance colors or see if you can add bold styling to your color scheme with a strong contrasting color to your small appliances. Think of aqua blue with either yellow or red.
Wall accents can carry your retro look easily even if you have a modern kitchen. Think about humorous wall signs, a shelf underneath with some cute 1950′s style decorations – mugs, bowls, figurines.
And don’t forget to make use of odd places to add your accents. An advertising sign from the 1950′s can sit nicely on a black side of your cabinets. All of these things can take a modern kitchen and turn it retro for you.

So true! It’s the little things that can make a big difference in the overall feel of a kitchen. I love the idea of starting with a retro clock! They do set a tone!
